Many skilled immigrants in Canada have always tried to figure out the answer to the big question “How to work as an immigrant?” When I first arrived here, like any immigrant I have been through the struggle of how to find and keep a job in Canada. I couldn’t quite understand what was stopping me from finding a job in my field until I was able to figure out what works and what does not in the Canadian job market. Finding a job that fits your skills is a constant process in Canada. Getting the much needed “Canadian work experience” on your resume can be challenging at first but not impossible.
When immigrants come to Canada, one of their first challenges is to find meaningful employment in the field of industry that they desire. There are lots of factors that may help advance or limit these newcomers. These include, geography, education, and the esteem to which their qualifications are held in Canada to name a few. A lot of these aspects are out of their control, at least temporarily. One thing that they can control is how best they understand their own personality and work styles.
Once you have applied for a job you want in Canada and invited for an interview a lot of newcomers to Canada don’t really know how to prepare themselves. Even though you may be fully qualified for the position on paper, being unfamiliar with the Canadian interview process can be quite daunting.
