Dear ,

As spring blooms in Canada, the rental accommodation market across the country remains hot, fuelled by the continuing arrival of newcomers and international students and a lack of supply of rental properties.

For both pre-arrivals and those who have recently landed, the good news is that the asking rents for all available property listings increased just 1.0 percent in March (and 10.8 percent year over year) to reach an average of $2,004 nationally.

Vancouver remains the most expensive rental market in Canada, with a one-bedroom priced at $2,743 dollars. Toronto is next at $2,506.

But for those of you looking to live in smaller markets, the pricing is better. A one-bedroom in Surrey, B.C., is $1,894, and in Calgary, it's $1,573.

Canada's western provinces continue to have the lowest rent prices by far.

Helping you research and find rental housing in Canada is our mission.

In addition to our Rentals for Newcomers site, where you can register for free and search for your own rental, we now provide the option of renting with the help of a real estate agent or renting a room in a house. It's all free.

All of these are excellent rental options in Canada for you to research.

In this month's newsletter, our city focus is on the popular and diverse GTA city of Brampton, Ontario. Be sure to check it out.

And don't forget to register for our monthly Accommodation in Canada webinar. Make it part of your research.

Please follow us at Rentals for Newcomers, and you can also follow us on Twitter (@rentalsfornewc), Facebook (Rentals for Newcomers) and Instagram (rentalsfornewcomers) and LinkedIn (Rentals For Newcomers).

Newcomers and Interest Rates Fuel Canada's Competitive Rental Market

It's spring in Canada, and the rental accommodation market across the country remains "highly competitive," fueled by the continuing arrival of newcomers and international students and interest rates.

Immigration, Lower Rates and Pent Up Demand Will Determine the Direction of the Canadian Housing Market

Farah Omran, Scotiabank's Housing Economist, outlines that scenario in her most recent Monthly Housing report as the Canadian housing market started to show signs of a rebound in March, with demand increasing and monthly home prices rising for the first time since the Bank of Canada launched its fight against inflation by raising interest rates.

So is this the time for newcomers to Canada to buy a home?
