The profession is a regulated one and you need to be licensed as a full member in one of the provincial or territorial bodies in order to practice the profession. According to recent reports, 51 per cent of Canada’s doctors practice family medicine, while 49 per cent are medical and surgical specialists. The provinces of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Quebec have the highest physician-to-population ratios, while Saskatchewan and Prince Edward Island the lowest.
